Frequently Asked questions:

When will registration close?

Registration closes on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Where can we access music and other important game day information?

Music, schedules, and all other important information will be emailed to registered students as soon as it becomes available.

What do students need to bring?

Students should bring their instrument, lyre, and flip book with music for this performance. Music can be printed out or brought in other formats (the MVs typically read music on their phones!). Music will be sent to all registered participants before the event.

Percussion: please bring your own drums and hardware.

Make sure to dress for the weather and bring rain gear if necessary.

Money for concessions might also be a good idea! Please note: Lane Stadium is a cashless stadium, so any concessions purchased should be with a card.

Is accessible seating available?

If students require ADA seating, they should indicate that during registration. You can also contact us so we can make those arrangements with athletics.

Friends and family who would like to request ADA seating should be able to speak directly with the ticket sales office once we share the info for purchasing from our block of friend & family tickets.

Where should we park?

Unfortunately, we cannot provide parking on game day, but students can be dropped off at the MVC. If you are a student driving yourself, you can drop off large instruments and other items at the drop-off location before going to park.

Is lunch provided?

Lunch is provided for MV For a Day student participants.

Parents and guests will need to make their own plans for lunch. There are many food options available in downtown Blacksburg and concessions are available for purchase in the stadium.

What should parents and guests do during rehearsal?

Parents and guests are more than welcome to watch rehearsal but they are also free to walk around and explore our beautiful campus!

I usually play in a front ensemble or pit. How can I participate in this event?

Although the Marching Virginians do not have a front ensemble, you can easily learn the cymbal part and bring a pair of crash cymbals to join the drumline on the field!

I registered for MV For a Day but I can no longer attend. Can my payment be refunded?

If you need a refund before the registration deadline, we will refund the full fee. After registration closes we will only be able to provide a partial refund.

Where do student participants pick up their football tickets?

Tickets purchased for students participating in MV for a Day will have their ticket given to them by the MV Staff before entering the stadium on game day.

Friends and family should follow instructions provided by VT Athletics regarding their ticket pick-up.

What about the weather?

Here are a few things to be aware of:

  • The MVs will be in the stands ready to perform rain or shine

  • We will abide by the Athletic Department’s decision regarding our halftime performance. Because we have a grass field in Lane Stadium, significant rainfall could mean we are asked to stay off the field.

  • It may be a good idea to bring a raincoat or a poncho to wear in the stands if rain is expected

  • Umbrellas are NOT allowed in the stadium!

  • Instrument cases are NOT allowed in the stadium. Woodwinds should plan accordingly.

  • Regardless of weather events, we are only able to offer refunds as outlined above.
