Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Marching Virginians

The Marching Virginians and MV Alumni Association (MVAA) will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Spirit of Tech throughout the 2024-2025 season!

50th Anniversary Celebration

Our primary alumni celebration was held in Blacksburg in conjuction with the VT vs Marshall football game on September 6th and 7th, 2024.

Highlights from the Weekend:

  • Reading Session - Alumni joined the current band for a play-through of past and present selections from the MV music catalog. We had guest conductors and lots of MV history.

  • 50th Anniversary Reception - Dinner, memorabilia displays, photo opportunities, special guests, a special 50th Anniversary slide show by Bob White, a DJ, and lots of opportunities to connect and re-connect with other MV alumni.

  • Game Day Rehearsal - Current MVs and MV Alumni teamed up to prepare for a special MV50 halftime show.

  • MV Alumni Tailgate - A chance to meet up with MV friends and family, tour the MVC, check out memorabilia, and enjoy a meal before the game.

  • MV Alumni Association Meeting - The MVAA held a short meeting under the MVC pavillion for a few announcements and to elect new board members:

    • Jul Davis - President-Elect

    • Jason Christensen - Secretary

    • Sara Elwood - Tau Beta Sigma Representative

  • MV Pregame Concert - Alumni were welcome to join the current MVs for their game day warm up.

  • March to Victory - MV alumni marched behind the current band on the way to the stadium for the Marshall game. The Alumni Drumline provided an excellent cadence to keep everyone in step.

  • Halftime at VT vs Marshall - Over 500 MV Alumni joined the current band on the field to be recognized during a special MV50 halftime show!
