Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Marching Virginians
The Marching Virginians and MV Alumni Association (MVAA) will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Spirit of Tech throughout the 2024-2025 season!

Our primary alumni celebration will be held in Blacksburg in conjuction with the VT vs Marshall football game on September 6th and 7th.
*NOTE: All food tickets have officially sold out, but there will still be other opportunities to come and connect with MVs past and present this weekend!
Schedule for Friday, September 6th:
Check-in/Registation 1:30-7:30PM at the Sochinski-McKee Marching Virginians Center (MVC)
MV Practice - 4:30PM - Arrive at the MVC in time to watch the current band run-through their part of the halftime show for Saturday’s game.
Reading Session - 5:30-6:45PM - Join the current band for a play-through of past and present selections from the MV music catalog. You can expect guest conductors, section features, and LOTS of MV history!
50th Anniversary Reception - 7:00PM - We’ll have memorabilia on display, photo opportunities, a slide show by Bob White, a DJ, and lots of opportunities to connect and re-connect with other MV alumni. (Food tickets have sold out)
Schedule for Saturday, September 7th (kickoff is scheduled for 4:30PM):
Check-in/Registation 11AM-12:30PM at the Sochinski-McKee Marching Virginians Center (MVC)
MV Rehearsal 11:30AM - come see what MV gameday practice looks like in 2024!
Alumni Rehearsal 12:00PM - We’ll rehearse our 50th Anniversary halftime show with the current MVs! Even if you’re just planning to come down on the field to be recognized, please join us at practice to make sure you know your cues! If you’re playing and marching, make sure you have your music! MV Alumni Tailgate - 12:30-3PM - Meet up with MV friends and family, take a tour of the MVC, check out memorabilia, and enjoy a delicious meal before the game. (Food tickets have sold out)
MV Alumni Association Meeting 2:15PM - The MVAA will hold a short meeting under the MVC pavillion. We do have a little bit of necessary business to take care of, but we’ll also have some surprise guests!
Pregame Concert & Group Picture 2:40PM - The current MVs will warm-up and perform a variety of tunes before they parade to the stadium and we’ll grab a big group picture from the tower!
March to Victory Parade to the Stadium - 3:00PM - Join the game day excitement and march to the stadium with the current band! MV alumni with drums and large horns will be escorted to the MV stands before moving to ticketed seats for the game.
Halftime at VT vs Marshall - MV Alumni will march, play, or simply join the current band on the field to be recognized during a special MV50 halftime show.
Instrument Return after halftime - please make sure to return any borrowed instruments and lyres to the MVC before you leave VT!

GAME TICKETS: our blocks of tickets have sold out, but you can try to contact Deamoni Denson at the VT ticket office to enquire about other offers, buy single game Marshall tickets on the hokiesports website, or check Seat Geek - official ticket reseller for VT Athletics.
PARKING: for more information regarding on- and off-campus gameday parking options, please check the hokiesports parking page and the VT football parking page
HOTELS: if you are looking for hotel reservations, we have two official blocks available in the Roanoke area at this time:
If you’re looking for a hotel the Christiansburg/Blacksburg area, there should be availablity, but you may need to call rather than book online and they may require a multi-day registration with premium pricing. Some options in this area include the Inn at Virginia Tech, Hampton Inn, and Hilton Garden Inn.
