After an incredibly productive 2019 marching season and overall year for The Marching Virginians, we fully embrace the coming of the new year with 2020 vision.
Drum major Ashlyn McDonald is looking forward to many things including undergraduate research, fun vacations with family and friends, going back to her super cool internship for a third summer, and being a part of The Marching Virginians one more time!
“I have two main resolutions:
1. To make someone smile every single day (something I started setting as a daily goal a few months ago)
2. To dance more than I have since coming to college because it’s something I love so much!”
Freshman spinner Catherine Miller is looking forward to performing with Valiant, VT’s premier indoor guard, and continuing to explore what Virginia Tech has to offer. While many MV's just started their journeys at Virginia Tech, there are some proudly celebrating their last season in The Spirit of Tech.
Senior Online Content Officer Alana Hassett is looking forward to hanging out with friends from the MVs as much as possible before graduation!
She says, "One of my resolutions is to put together some exciting videos for the MV social media with some of the awesome footage we've gotten this year, so keep an eye out for those!"
In 2020, Executive Officer Drew Robertson-Gouge is most excited about moving to California after he graduates VT to attend USC for graduate school!
"As for resolutions, I want to try and be more conscious of how I interact with people and make sure that I’m actually making a meaningful connection with everyone I talk to!"
Similarly, sophomore saxophonist Nick Alford wants to make many more awesome memories with friends and family. One of his big resolutions is to make the Dean’s list once again!
Every year, drum major Nick Ramy looks forward to the new friends, opportunities, and the challenges he will face throughout the year.
"Every year is a chance to reflect on what I’ve done the year before and improve on it, and 2020 is special because I have a chance to look back on the whole decade and think about where I was, who I’ve become, and what I can do to improve."
For resolutions, Nick not only wants to continue his impactful fitness resolution he started two years ago, but he also wants to work on becoming a better role model.
"Not just for kids that happen to see me in my marching band uniform, but for my peers as well. I am very fortunate to be in the leadership position that I am, and if I can use it to help better lives that are a few years younger or even older than me, then I feel that I have been successful."
Best of luck to all in 2020 - we hope you accomplish all your goals! Looking forward to seeing you at Honor Band-a-Rama, Bandquet, and the next marching season!
