In The MVs, we take pride in our student leadership, but there’s no denying that we couldn’t function as we do today without our wonderful directors, Dr. Polly Middleton and Chad Reep. You may know a little bit about them, but now it’s time to learn more- let’s meet the directors!
What is your favorite thing about being a director of The MVs?
“Working with incredible students who represent every major on campus. I learn so much from them and hear many different perspectives on education and life.” - Chad
“The feeling of family and community- I get to work with many different people and watch their talents shape The MVs. I also love the impact we have through all the high fives, Hokies for the Hungry, the incredible Hokie spirit, and our dedication to great playing and marching.” - Dr. Polly
What are you most looking forward to next season?
“BEING TOGETHER! I hated that we couldn’t be together, couldn’t march, couldn’t get to know and take care of each other the way we have in the past.” - Dr. Polly
“Having the entire band together making music again! Also, SEEING EVERYBODY'S FACE (hopefully!).” - Chad
How has your teaching changed over the years?
“I have more patience. I used to get frustrated easily but have become much more understanding of the fact that there is a life outside of band, and every student is dealing with their own lives and issues.” - Chad
“I’ve picked up new skills and ideas at every place I’ve worked. I’ve also gained confidence in what I do and the decisions I make.” -Dr. Polly
What is your favorite MV show?
“I LOVE our pregame show. I love Power Closer, too. It’s so challenging and the music and drill generate so much excitement and energy.” - Dr. Polly
“The first show I did (Hey Good Lookin', Power Closer, and Hokie Pokie) was my introduction to The MVs and Hokies Football, and I loved it. But the best show we do is pregame. We have one of the best pregames I have ever seen. There are so many powerful moments.” - Chad
What is your favorite stand tune?
“There are three - Bom Bom, Superman, and Tech Triumph!” - Chad
“Superman! I love playing it at the end of games because it’s special every time. I also love that generations of MVs have the same memories and experiences associated with it.” - Dr. Polly
What is one thing nobody would guess about you?
“I have a full set of recorders. I also love to water ski and slalom ski (water ski on one ski).” - Dr. Polly
“I am an elite athlete. In 1999, I was on two Montana State Championship teams: High School Hockey and High School Baseball. No big deal.” - Chad
When asked for any last words, both expressed their sincere love for this organization and the students in it. Through all of the challenges and fun times that come with being college band directors, there’s no doubt that these two are #MVs4Lyfe!
