The Marching Virginians were invited to welcome Coach Pry to his new home, here at Virginia Tech Wednesday afternoon. A small portion of the band snuck their way into the Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport and waited in surprise just before his 1 o’clock plane landing.
From Centre County to Montgomery County, Coach Pry left one college mountain town for another. Penn State University said farewell to one of their most successful confidants of the Mountain Lion’s football program.
The Hokies couldn’t be more excited to welcome their new coach. The Marching Virginian’s photographer, Beau Wong, commented “It was super surreal reading quotes about Coach Pry the night before and then seeing him in the flesh. Such an honor being able to be there. Can’t wait to see him work with our program!”
To kick-off the welcome party, the band played their top pep tunes starting at #2, followed by the full rendition of Tech Triumph which includes pieces of Shenandoah and VPI Victory March.
The band stayed to play for about 25 minutes until some members could converse with Coach Pry, including our fearless leader, Dr. Polly!
Despite the rainy day, tons of smiles, hugs, and high-fives were shared with the group. Dogeun Lee recalls on Facebook, “There was absolutely no shortage of Hokie spirit in that hanger.”
Many members of the band have expressed their excitement for the new coach. Still elated from the UVA win with interim coach, Coach Price, we’re looking forward to a Bowl Game with more information to share by December 9th.
